Hun (fish) are an essential element of Gitxsan culture Many methods are used to preserve hun (fish) by the Gixsan  Hukws (dried fish strips) hanging in a wilpsahun (smokehouse)
Fish strips from a miso’o (sockeye salmon) are hung (‘yak) in a smokehouse Hukws (fully dried fish strips) from a miso’o (sockeye salmon) after five days hanging in a smokehouse
