Information session
March 19, 2002

Summary:

Brett Huson, Gitxsan youth leader: …we’ve had fairly good responses, and we’ve gotten some negative ones. Some people they just don’t really understand what we are doing. They don’t understand that we are trying to provide employment for the area…

Alice Maitland, mayor, Village of Hazelton: …I hope that people will start thinking that it’s their job to get involved and lobby the government and lobby whoever to help us create some economy that will keep Hazelton alive and well… just to get support against whole log export out of this community and to get support for looking at ways to develop our economy so it’s sustainable.

Ralph Michell, Gitxsan leader: …healthy communities in the northwest is important for the prosperity of this province and we just want to go to work ourselves. We don’t want social welfare. We don’t want unemployment insurance. It feels a lot better to go to work.
