GITWANGAK INDIAN BAND

NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEIDATE RELEASE

SEPTEMBER 18, 1992

The Canadian National Railway Company served an ex-parte injunction on Gitwangak Indian Band today. The injunction restrains the Gitwangak Band Council and Gitwangak Residents from blocking the CN mainline going through Gitwangak Indian Reserve.

Larry Moore, Chief Councilor for Gitwangak said, "We will stand firm on our demands and position until we get a satisfactory response from the province of B.C.." "The blockade will remain up, " he added.

Gitwangak has blocked the CN mainline since 12:00 am, September 17, 1992. The protest is linked to the decision of the past forest minister to transfer tenures from Westar to Repap.
