Hereditary chiefs give province another chance

Gitxsan Territories—Gitxsan hereditary chiefs announced today they are directing their negotiating team to give the province another chance at the treaty table.

…Mas Gak has written a letter to the B.C. Treaty Commission asking they act as mediators to get trilateral treaty talks back on track…

…Mas Gak warned that the provincial strategy will have negative implications for all First Nations involved in treaty negotiations.

“If you don’t tow the line and accept the provincial position then they’ll walk from the table.  They’ll be using this decision to pressure the Nisga’a into accepting an agreement-in-principle,” said Mas Gak.
